The person I job shadowed was Mrs.Cercado who is a 5th grade teacher at Washington Elementary . The reason why I choose a teacher is because I am interested in teaching. I think teaching is a good job because you get to make a difference in sometimes.
In the beginning of class, we’re Mrs.Cercado had something called “class meeting” and it’s were her and her whole class talk about what they did during the week, she also tells them stories about her past or the kids tell her things that happen during lunch or break. Then the students did reading plus for 20 minutes, after that she reads them a book that they have been reading for a couple days, after that they write what happened in their notebooks. Since they didn’t do their homework they had to do it in class , everyone was participating and then it was time for break. That’s when Mrs.Cercado and myself had a chance to talk and I asked her questions, she gave me the best answers possible ad great advice. Few minutes later the kids came back and did more worksheets. Then they switched to their ELD class, and it’s a class for kids learning to read and speak in english better. That class wasn’t as loud as the other one, she helped the students both in groups and one on one, then she asked me if I could walk around and help them if they needed it. After that class was lunch and I went with the kids to lunch and recess. Once that was over we went back into class and did more work and after a while I left home.
I learned that you have to be very patient with younger kids. You should always make learning fun that way they will both want to be there and learn. If you are having a bad day do not show it because that makes they kids not want to learn and they won’t listen.
Being in a classroom for a whole day really opened my eyes and made me realize that I do want to become a teacher, so many teachers of mine have made a difference in my life and I want to be able to do that to others. I am still interested in teaching but I don’t thinki with younger kids, I would to teach U.S history for a high school.
